Report on Zoonotic Disease Prevention Sensitization and Training Program held at Odeda, Ogun State

The Zoonotic Disease Prevention Sensitization and Training Program was held on 22 November 2023 at Odeda Local Government, Ogun State, to strengthen awareness of zoonotic disease risks among hunters and game sellers. The initiative brought together professional facilitators, support staff, and a medical outreach team to deliver structured education and health services aimed at reducing disease transmission at the human–animal interface.

The program combined pre-evaluations, focus group discussions, video interventions, case-based learning, lectures on zoonosis prevention, and post-evaluations to assess knowledge and promote behavior change. Approximately 100 participants took part in the outreach, which also included on-site medical screenings such as blood tests, blood pressure checks, malaria and COVID-19 testing, and vital signs assessment.

Biological samples and medical records were collected for further laboratory analysis in Ibadan, while electronic questionnaires and audio-recorded focus group discussions supported structured data collection. Although minor logistical and documentation challenges were encountered, including incomplete payment records and lower post-training survey responses, the overall coordination and engagement contributed to the program’s success.

Follow-up activities are planned to analyze collected samples, disseminate findings, and strengthen future implementation processes. The initiative demonstrates an integrated One Health approach that combines community sensitization, medical outreach, and data-driven evaluation to promote zoonotic disease prevention in Ogun State.
